"My primary focus is on my art sketches such as portraits. However, that is not the only thing. I also create one of a kind hair accessories. I got started in grade 11 when my teacher told me that I had great potential as an artist. After that, I started focusing all my spare time into drawing and it become a great passion. As for the hair accessories, it started when I was creating a cosplay costume, and I could not find the hair piece that I wanted, so I decided I would do it myself, and I had a lot of fun doing it, so I decided to just carrying on doing so."

"The thing I have the most fun creating is some of my all time favorite characters from various TV shows and Movies. I love doing my own rendition of them, and how they appear to me. With my drawings, I really don't follow a theme. Most the time, it is just what I feel like drawing that day or if I am watching a movie, I will pick a significant object or person. With my hair pieces, most of them are based on the sea and sea critters, like mermaids!"
Picture
"I have an art room in my house, that is solely dedicated to my work, that my wonderful husband made for me instead of making himself a man cave! It was quite the surprise! Most of the time, I will be watching TV or a movie while working on a piece, However, I like to mix it up from time to time, and listen to some music."
Picture
"The most difficult part of the process for me is almost the whole thing. I am such an OCD perfectionist, that if the small detail isn't correct I will sit there for hours fixing it til it is to my liking. "
Picture
"My favorite drawing that I have done Is one that I call "Until the last petal falls". It is a representation of how my life used to be, and it speaks to me on many levels.
My favorite hair accessory is a cross between the little mermaid and beauty and the beast, which happen to be my two favorite disney movies."
Picture
"When I am not creating.... I am still creating, as I make my own cosplay costumes so I can attend Comic Con and Fan Exxpo each year. I also refuse to wear the same costume two days in a row, so I create a different one for every day!"

Stephanie's work can be bought online at her Etsy shop. Meet her at The ARtisan Fair on May 5th, 10 - 2 at 90 Hunter St East in Peterborough!

Hayley creates pagan and spiritual jewelry, wire wrapped adornments like tiaras, circlets and cuffs, wooden runes, wands, walking staves, curio coffers and cloaks.
"
I have always had the creative touch, the ability to create jewelry for friends and family. I follow a Pagan path, and decided to combine my faith with jewelry. I love nature, and the woods call to me, so I began working with wood to create wands, walking staves and runes. I decided last year to do what I love as my business."
Picture
WHenn asked what she has the most fun creating, Hayley says, "I love wire wrapping, and I am still perfecting my ability. My favorite item to work on are wire masks." The jewellery Hayley makes is "uniquely pagan and spiritual". "No pagan is the same as another pagan, and as such I try to make pieces that call to anyone." Hayley crafts all of her items at home. "Each piece is crafted with love and intent, and charged by the moon."
Picture
Most of the time when working at home, Hayley has music on. it could be an upbeat playlist, or a soothing nature sounds playlist. When asked where she gets her inspiration, Hayley says, "My path and different views inspire me. Nature and the celestial bodies move me."

For Hayley, the most difficult part of the process is running out of specific pieces.
Her Beltane mask won an artisan contest at an event, and is her all-time favourite item that she has created.

Her business, Mystic Moon Blessings, is on Facebook. "I am a single mother of 2 young girls, so my day is filled with taking care of my kids, housecare, and some form of crafting."

Alicia creates one of a kind wire wrapped stone jewellery. The tree of life pendant is her signature peice. Her love for creating is what motivated her to start her own business. She started making wire jewellery after she graduated from high school. "I have always been an artsy person and once I started wire wrapping I couldn't stop."

She has the most fun creating her stone tree of life pendants. "No two are alike and I can twist the branches to reflect a certain message."

When note creating, Alicia works full time as an administrative assistant within the Ontario Public Service. The theme she pursues in her work is nature. "The tree theme and leaf earrings scream tree lover. The tree of life also has a special meaning in almost every culture."
Picture
"I mainly work in my house in the living room while watching TV. My art is also very portable so I create during long car rides and art shows. I get my insperation from alot of diffrent things. Usually ideas just xome to me when I am looking outside enjoying the day."
Picture
When asked what the most difficult part of the process is, Alicia says, "Trying not to jab yourself or have wire flying everywhere."
Picture
"My favorite most meaningful peice I have ever created is a pink Morganite stone with gold wire tree of life pendant. That was the last peice I made with my beloved cat of 14 years on my lap before she passed. I picked that stone at random not knowing it would be the last one, and its a healing stone for grief."

"I am always expanding my texhniques and trying to learn new things. Everything I make is one of a kind and made with love."

Anne Brandly, Needlefelter & Fine Knitter

"I have been knitting for 60+ years, always loving the idea of creating something beautiful and useful from sticks and string! I use quality wool fibres and create socks, hats, especially enjoy FairIsle colour techniques with bright colours!

Discovering needle felting techniques (needle felting is sculpting with wool fibre) has led me to create whimsical creatures, sometimes using clay faces, hands and feet. I love colours in needle felting and knitting!" For Anne, the most fun items to make are " caricatures of real people, such as St. Francis of Assisi."
Picture
Workng from home, Anne focusses on uplifting and humorous creations. When asked where she gets her inspiration, Anne says, "All around me in God’s beautiful creation!" She also says, "I am addicted to sock knitting! As each pair comes off the needles, I immediately cast on another pair! There is nothing better than cozy hand-knitted socks to caress your feet!"
Picture
When asked how she occupies her mind while working, Anne says, "When knitting a complicated pattern, my attention must be strong, so then I like to be in silence. At other times, I like to have silence which allows my mind to travel and find inspiration and ideas. I am always at least a few projects ahead of what is being manipulated in my fingers. At other times, I listen to classic music. Mozart and Bach are my favourite composers. Recently I have also been listening to audio books from the library. "
Picture
For needle felting, the most difficult part of the process is getting the look she  imagines. "I don’t do sketches, although in my knitting designs I do graph out the colour work. As I specialize in one of a kind creations, I love them all!
But I did enjoy creating “Sister Joy”, who sadly, is sold."
Picture
Picture
"I want to make people happy and joyful with my creations, be they sculpture or knitted socks." When note creating, Anne is "reading, walking, praying, dreaming of new creations yet to come!"

Come meet Anne on May 5th at 90 Hunter St East, 10 - 2!

Beth Gibson, Jewellery Designer

As a creator of beaded bracelets, necklaces, earrings and bookmarks, Beth Gibson says "I have always loved beads and beautiful things. Creating jewelry allows me to share my passion with others and help make the world a better place to live in, one lovely creation at a time. Since each piece is hand crafted, they are wearable art."
Picture
Beth has the most fun creating earrings. "The earrings probably are the most versatile piece, they have the most variety. Some are long, some are short. I'm always experimenting with the materials." When not creating, Beth says she plays in two different concert bands, raises a houseful of teenagers, and works on some quilts she hopes to sell.

Beth usually works at her kitchen table, working "with natural materials, glass, pearls, semi precious beads. To bring a little bit of nature up close and personal." She also works in silence to have as little distraction as possible. The most difficult part of the process, Beth says, is "assembling the finished product. Sometimes the links are quite tiny. It takes a steady hand to coordinate."

Picture
"When my necklaces and bracelets are on display in the bright sunlight, they really sparkle. When people walk by, it's hard not to notice. And say how beautiful they look." Each piece is unique and Beth does do custom orders.

You can meet her at The Artisan Fair on May 5th at 90 Hunter St East, between 10 and 2. You can also see her work at the Toronto Art Crawl, Hamilton Supercrawl, Ancaster Fairgrounds, Milton Spring Show and Craft fair, Lakeshore Mardi Gras festival, and the Apothecary Muse.
